Hot on the heels of the sale of the Holland Road site, major developers displayed interest in the commercial and residential GLS site at Sengkang Central, with seven bids recorded at the close of the tender. While the number of bids received were lesser than those for the Holland Road GLS site, it was still a relatively strong showing of interest in this particular project. The 37,248.8 sqm site is conveniently located next to Buangkok MRT, with an estimate of 700 units to be spawned from the development. Akin to the Holland Road site, the Sengkang Central site will be sold under the dual envelope system where priority is given to the design and concept for the project, before the tender bid is even considered. Majority of the players have opted to form an alliance with other firms in the bid for this site, with developers such as CapitaLand Singapore and City Developments Ltd (CDL), and Wing Tai Holdings and Keppel Land joining forces. The recent winner for the Holland Road site tender, Far East Organization, is also in the race for the Sengkang Central site, submitting two separate tenders with different concept proposals. The site is envisioned as an integrated community hub, a future landmark that serves as a one-stop destination with all the amenities and facilities to meet the needs of the residents in Buangkok.
